SAN MARTIN HYDROELECTRIC PROJECT

Honduras aims to have an energy matrix in which renewable sources predominate. Proof of this is San Martín Hydroelectric Project, S.A. de C.V., of Inversiones San Martín, A 100% Honduran company, located in the village of San Martín, Municipality of San Esteban, department of Olancho, which since 2014 is bringing electricity to the eastern Honduran area.

With an installed capacity of 3,000 kilowatts of energy, it generates 16 gigawatt/hour annually. This project is a source of direct and indirect employment for the inhabitants of the surrounding communities, both during construction and currently in its operation. San Martin also cooperates with local communities by providing electricity, health, and water, among other benefits.

GENERATION PLANT

The generation plant consists of six areas:

  • Dam Site
  • Desamder
  • Pressure and conduction pipeline
  • Powerhouse
  • Transmission line

Dam SiteIt is constituted by a straight gravity dam, with a length of 20 meters, constructed with reinforced concrete and located perpendicularly to the direction of the current of the water.

DesanderIt is 43 meters long and serves to filter and retain sediments that are washed away by water currents.</>

Pressure and conduction pipeline:
As the name implies, this pipeline conducts water from the dam site to the engine room. It consists of 5.5 kilometers in length, being the first 3.6 Km of conduction pipelines, and the remaining 1.9 Km of pressure pipeline.

PowerhouseThe powerhouse is located on the right bank of river San Martín. In its interior it houses two Pelton turbines of horizontal axis, two generators, two transformers, an operating room and a control room.

Transmission lineWith a length of 5.8 kilometers, it is used to connect to the ENEE’s National Interconnected System.
