Honduras aims to have an energy matrix in which renewable sources predominate. Proof of this is San Martín Hydroelectric Project, S.A. de C.V., of Inversiones San Martín, A 100% Honduran company, located in the village of San Martín, Municipality of San Esteban, department of Olancho, which since 2014 is bringing electricity to the eastern Honduran area.
With an installed capacity of 3,000 kilowatts of energy, it generates 16 gigawatt/hour annually. This project is a source of direct and indirect employment for the inhabitants of the surrounding communities, both during construction and currently in its operation. San Martin also cooperates with local communities by providing electricity, health, and water, among other benefits.
